Cloud Computing

This course defines Cloud Computing and establishes a strong working knowledge of the concepts and technologies needed to work effectively with the cloud.

Anyone seeking to exploit the benefits of cloud computing technologies. The course provides examples of cloud systems and code but focuses on best practices that can be applied to any language and cloud environment.

Software as a Service (SaaS):

Applications delivered over the Internet that reside in the cloud and are accessed on a pay-as-you-go financial model are known as SaaS. Examples include Google applications for word processing, spreadsheets and presentations and Salesforce.com.

During the course, attendees gain experience in using the Google productivity tools as an example of SaaS. In addition, services for building applications such as credit card payment services will also be examined.

Platform as a Service (PaaS):

A computing platform, defining development tools, execution environment, middleware and deployment tools, available as a pay-as-you-go system are known as PaaS. During the course, we introduce the kind of facilities PaaS provides and look at the Google App engine as an example of PaaS, using the Google development tools and seeing an application deployed to Google App engine.

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS):

The ability to commission and decommission servers, networks, storage, etc. on demand and instantaneously on a pay-as-you-go basis is known as IaaS. During the course we demonstrate the Iaas provisions from the major providers and via Hands-On exercises use the Eucalyptus cloud to gain experience of commissioning a server. Then Amazon Web services is examined in detail as an example of IaaS also.

VMware and Hyper-V training

In this course, you gain the skills to virtualize your organization's infrastructure. Through extensive hands-on exercises, you learn how to deploy and configure a highly available virtual infrastructure with VMware vSphere including vCenter Server and VMware ESXi Server.

This course is valuable for anyone interested in implementing ESXi Server and/or vCenter, including:

  • IT infrastructure architects
  • System administrators
  • System engineers
  • Datacenter operators

Prerequisites:

Experience with Windows or Linux system administration and networking knowledge is assumed. For example, you should know how to:

  • Create and administer users, groups and shared network resources
  • Configure networking resources, such as routers, switches and firewalls
  • Specify hardware requirements for server operating systems and applications running on those servers
  • Remotely access and administer computers in a network environment

VMware vCloud director and Apps

Orchestrate the provisioning of software-defined datacenter services as complete virtual datacenters that are ready for consumption in a matter of minutes. Virtual datacenters provide virtualized compute, networking, storage, and security. Administrators can provision the complete set of services necessary to make workloads operational in minutes. Software-defined datacenter service and the virtual datacenters fundamentally simplify infrastructure provisioning, and enable IT to move at the speed of business.

VMware vCloud Director applies the principles of pooling, abstraction and automation to all datacenter services like storage, networking, and security. By dramatically simplifying the provisioning of these services, VMware enables IT to provision complete and operationally ready infrastructure without worrying about the physical configuration of hardware.

The virtual datacenter is a new logical container that provides all infrastructure services necessary to make workloads operational in minutes. Applications provisioned into these elastic containers are automatically placed in the most optimal vCenter Server cluster, alleviating IT overhead around balancing server capacity.

Multiple resource allocation models define how virtual datacenter resources are consumed by different teams and organizations. Resources can be reserved for guaranteed availability or consumed “as you go” for maximum efficiency.

Private and public clouds

Cloud computing offers attractive economies of scale, provides on-demand services just in time, gives you an infrastructure that supports telework and continuity of operations (COOP) plans, and helps green up your data center. Even so, questions about security and privacy keep some public sector organizations from realizing the benefits of this computing model. To harness the power of the cloud on your terms, consider the private cloud.

Whether you need extra capacity for peak demand or want to extend all the benefits of virtualized infrastructure beyond your datacenter, VMware vCloud™ services offer you the true IT agility, efficiency, and cost savings of the public cloud. Supplied by the largest global ecosystem of cloud computing partners, only vCloud services deliver enterprise-class security and infrastructure compatibility together with the freedom to readily move workloads among private, public, and hybrid clouds. That’s because only vCloud services are built on the world’s most proven and widely deployed cloud technologies: VMware vSphere, VMware vCenter, VMware vCloud Director, and VMware vShield.
